Duck Down vs Goose Down: What’s the Difference?

We love both geese and ducks, and both produce beautiful natural down that creates the luxurious warmth and loft found in premium down comforters.

While both types of down provide exceptional comfort, there are a few important differences to understand when choosing between duck down and goose down bedding:

Goose down comes from larger birds that often live in colder climates. Because geese are bigger, they produce larger down clusters, which typically provide higher fill power. Larger clusters trap more air, resulting in excellent insulation and superior warmth-to-weight performance.

Duck down, on the other hand, is more abundant and therefore often more affordable. High-quality duck down can still offer excellent loft, softness, and warmth, making it a wonderful option for lightweight and all-season down comforters. Our duck down comforters are filled with premium high fill-power duck down and encased in smooth cotton cambric shells for breathable comfort and elegant softness.

When comparing duck down vs goose down comforters, it’s important to look beyond the species and consider fill power and fill weight. In general, goose down can provide slightly more warmth at the same fill weight because of its larger clusters, but both types of down can deliver outstanding comfort when properly sourced and constructed.

No matter which down products you choose, you can rest assured that our bedding is made using responsibly sourced down from farms that prohibit live-plucking and animal cruelty, ensuring both ethical standards and exceptional quality.
